| Cody Cares ID Medical Jewelry came about do to the fact that Cody is a 7-year-old boy with Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH). It is an inherited disorder that affects the adrenal gland. Cody has the more sever type and is Cortisol dependent. In the last four years it has been very difficult finding medical ID jewelry, the engraving etc. that he needs to wear at all times. Therefore, I wanted to make it very easy for you or your loved ones to be able to get these items.
A non-profit organization was established in 2001 called the CARES Foundation, Inc. (which stands for Congential Adrenal Hyperplasia Research, Education and Support). Kelly and Adam Leight, whose child has CAH, formed this organization. Surprised at the lack of resources for families to learn more about this disorder and, support networks for individuals affected by CAH was not there. This foundation helped educate physicians and legislators about the disorder, symptoms, diagnostic protocols and treatment. The foundation has been an advocate for early intervention and expanded newborn screening. The foundation has also provided grants to medical institutions for CAH related research.
